When first starting a project car , there are three main categories to split the remodel.

Exterior: Would have to do with any new body parts such as body kits, wings, fenders, etc. Also paint and any other repairs to the outside of the car.

Interior: All interior work , carpets, seats, stereo system upgrades, etc. The interior section will include all aspects of an interior remodel.

Performance: All engine work, suspension, etc.

Personally I would suggest to do all the performance work first, this is the dirties task and the most messy one. While pulling out an engine or doing some other upgrades having a brand new paint job to take care of and be careful with is time consuming and difficult. After doing all your major performance mods, the second step would be the interior of the car. Covering the interior once its done its pretty simple and taking care of it not a big deal. Finally once the car performs good and it has a nice interior the last piece of the puzzle would be a great paint job, remember people see first the paint and wheels so having a good paint job and nice wheels will definitely make your ride stand out.

Another very common upgrade to gain a bit more performance out of your engine is a cat back exhaust system; they are less restrictive and also add a nice tone to the car. In purchasing a cat-back personally I have always shopped around based on horsepower gain and also sound. In my opinion sound is essential to either “make” or “break” your car, if your car looks “clean” you probably will want to get an exhaust that will go with the look and also will perform both in power and sound up to quality of the rest of the car.

Overall Procedure:

1. Get an idea of what style of seats you are looking for.

When buying new aftermarket seats consider all your options, pricing, looks, purpose, etc. Also decide on the installation procedure you want to follow, if you need brackets or sliders it would be the best to buy it all at the same time.

Personally I chose to go with the NETAMI Carbon Look, it’s a solid black with some carbon texture to it so they do look a bit different than regular leather, this was a great match for my interior. The seats I choose are not full bucket seats they do have reclining and sliding capabilities.

When you first buy the seats they usually ship out disassembled, the assembly is a fairly straight forward. It only requires you to attach a couple of screws and with instructions it’s really easy.

1. Removing old seats and adapting brackets.

As part of my installation I decided I did not want to buy new brackets for my seat and instead I would customize the existing brackets from the original seats. This task would require to take out the old brackets and customizing them in any way or form to make them fit the new set up.

First step was to take out the old seats and evaluate the “game plan” for the new installation. In my car the seats and brackets came out by just unbolting 4 different bolts on the ends of the brackets.

After the seats were out, I had to take apart the bracket from the seat. The brackets were connected with 3 bolts per side. During this procedure I ran into a rusted bolt and it was a pain to take it out, finally with some heat from a torch I was able to melt the rust and just unscrew it.

1. Installing Brackets in new seats

Being this was going to be a custom install for the brackets, I had to plan out how to custom adapt them into the seats. After fitting them and deciding how to mount them with some measurements and drilling the brackets went right on into the new seats. The passenger side bracket did require some cutting of extra metal and also decided to leave the normal seat belt latch so that they could be use as normal. Since it was a custom installation it does take a bit more time than just using aftermarket brackets and sliders but it would depend on you what path you decided to go with. I personally wanted to keep the same height, sliding option and seat belt latch. So a custom fit was the best, if I would have gone the other way I would have to use seat harnesses because my seat belt latch on my car was part of the old seats so by taking those out I would have taken out the latch of the seat belt and I would have to been using seat harnesses. Also the height would have changed a bit usually aftermarket seats raise the seat about 1” more than the regular brackets in some cases. After the cutting and grinding finally the brackets got installed and this allowed for the seats to finally go in the car.

1. Installing new seats in car.

With the seats placed in the car, being the fact that they are wider than the stock seats. Two new holes were required so that they could be bolted to the ground. The new holes were made using a metal drill bid and the seats were secured using bolts. After the seats were bolted down the two previous opening were filled with some clear silicon and of course the carpet covered them. With the seats in place it’s a good idea to just test them out see if they are sliding freely and also add some lube to the sliders. In my installation they felt perfect and secure.

1. Cleaning and enjoying.

The seats got a bit dusty and dirty from all the moving around, after putting them on I just gave the interior of the car a minor detailing and the looks of it were great. The new seats overall made the car look newer and definitely sportier.

1969 Datsun Roadster

I just wanted to showcase an old school car that kicks ass. Most of the kids these days just want something fast and new but I wanted to show everyone that Datsun made some killer cars in the 1960’s. This was my 1969 Datsun Roadster. It had a 2.0 Liter engine and a 5 speed transmission. You can see how long the hood is because the engine was pretty large for a small car like this. There are really no electronics to this car at all. Just carburetor, battery and a gas tank.

This car was pretty dang fast. I could hit 45 MPH in first gear and well over 80MPH in 2nd. I never really pushed it over 100MPH but it would to it in 3rd gear no problem. This was just a great summer car. If your parents are looking for something cool why don’t you suggest them to get a 1960’s Datsun Roadster.

The 1969’s are the later model years. They are known as the high screen models. This is because the windshield is taller than the earlier models. Americans are taller than the Japanese so they started making them with the taller windshields.

State of Oregon and Portland General Electric Join Partnership

Kurihara was pleased to also announce that the State of Oregon and Portland General Electric (PGE) (NYSE:POR) are joining Mitsubishi in the i MiEV partnership program. “State of Oregon Governor Ted Kulongoski is a progressive thinker who is providing a roadmap of the future,” commented Kurihara. “The State of Oregon and Portland General Electric will become valuable partners in helping validate the future of all electric vehicles.”

Details of the programs are being finalized, but the findings from these real-world, independent tests will play an important role in further advancing the car’s development for the U.S. market.

“Oregon welcomes the partnership with Mitsubishi as we transition to the next generation in vehicle technology. Together, we can build a consistent and reliable infrastructure so consumers can make the switch seamlessly to electric vehicles,” Governor Kulongoski said. “The partnership shows that a state can create opportunity for its commitment to a greener future – wins for our economy and our environment.”

PGE is rolling out a network of charging stations across its service territoryin Oregonand the addition of i MiEVs further facilitates its support of next-generation electric vehicles.PGE currently has more than a dozen charging stations up and running.

Mitsubishi i MiEV Performance

Based on the successful Japanese market “i” car, the electric version replaces the i’s conventional gasoline engine, transmission and fuel tank with an advanced lithium-ion battery system, electric motor and onboard charging system. Unique rear mid-ship architecture allowed Mitsubishi Motors to seamlessly integrate the new components under the seats, luggage compartment and floor deck, meaning no compromise in interior cabin space. In fact, there are few visual sight cues that indicate the vast technological differences between the gasoline and electric models.

With its high-torque electric motor and clever packaging, the i MiEV offers an intelligent combination of useful performance with small physical and carbon footprints, plus a roomy interior and a sensible range of approximately 80 miles from its advanced lithium-ion battery pack.

The i MiEV’s battery pack consists of 22 modules, each one consisting of four cells that can be installed in either a vertical or transverse position under the i MiEV’s floor. The i MiEV’s onboard charger automatically adapts between a standard 110 outlet – which takes 12-14 hours – or half that time on 220. There is also a fast charge connector that allows the battery to reach 80 percent of capacity in just 30 minutes.

The proprietary lithium-ion batteries are purpose-built for automotive applications. It is produced by Lithium Energy Japan, a joint venture among GS Yuasa, Mitsubishi Corporation and Mitsubishi Motors.

A front grille design inspired by the Lancer Evolution’s “jet fighter” look is clearly in play on the Outlander GT Prototype, which sports complementary new design elements, such as a reshaped front bumper, side mirrors, fenders and hood. Reshaped Bi-Xenon HID headlamps, a new rear bumper and side sills, plus a bold polished finish on the already standard aluminum roof panel accentuate the sporty appeal.

The Outlander GT Prototype also benefits from improvements to the all-aluminum 3.0-liter SOHC MIVEC V6 currently found in the Outlander XLS, including a reduction in intake restriction plus optimized camshaft timing and compression ratio. The engine changes raise maximum output by 10 horsepower, for a total of 230 horsepower, with an improved torque curve for more responsive city driving and enhanced fuel economy and emissions.

To further increase fuel economy, the Outlander GT Prototype features an upgraded shifting program and Idle Neutral Logic, which automatically, and smoothly, shifts into neutral during vehicle standstill. It reengages at the slightest lift of the foot off the brake pedal, thereby providing instantaneous response.

Consistent with Hyundai’s pledge to lead all brands in U.S. fuel economy by 2015, Nuvis is powered by Hyundai’s Hybrid Blue Drive architecture, which uses breakthrough lithium polymer battery technology.

Hyundai’s all-new, homegrown Hybrid Blue Drive architecture helps define the Nuvis concept. Hyundai’s proprietary parallel hybrid drive system mates the already fuel-efficient 2.4-liter Theta II engine to a 6-speed automatic transmission and a 30kW (205 N-m) electric motor for maximum fuel economy.

Hybrid Blue Drive has an all-electric mode and a parallel drive mode, meaning that the wheels are turned by power coming directly from the gasoline engine, or the electric motor, or both together, as conditions demand. This parallel hybrid drive architecture will serve as the foundation for future Hyundai hybrid drive vehicles, starting with the next-generation Sonata in the United States.

“Our goal was to create a living machine, constantly moving, that the driver and passengers could be part of,” said John Krsteski, Hyundai Design manager. “There are no lines on or in this car that are standing still.”

In addition to invoking the impression of irrepressible motion, the Hyundai design team took more practical matters into account as well. Nuvis is designed to accommodate the diverse interests of a modern, active couple. The Nuvis is meant to be comfortable starting its day at a desert retreat, arriving at the ski slopes in the afternoon and then cruising to a formal dinner that evening.

The Nuvis has an assertive face demonstrated by the strong, hourglass shape that frames the blue acrylic shield grille and aggressive headlamps, whose two glowing white rings are offset by a pair of red rings on the taillights.

Perched on top of 22-inch wheels, Nuvis’ proportions are tall, strong and protective. The two body-side lines set up a flowing water effect, giving the appearance of motion.

“One of the coolest attributes of Nuvis is that the protective roof appears to float on top of the body through the use of hidden pillars and high-contrast glass,” said Andre Hudson, Hyundai senior designer. “This effect starts at the headlamps and is carried all the way through to the taillights producing a tall, strong body-side and rear.”

Large gull-wing doors, either opened or closed, create unique front, rear and profile views. Blue ambient lighting cast across the body adds to the overall upscale feel of the vehicle.

In keeping with the exterior design scheme, the Nuvis’ spacious and luxurious interior is dominated by a cool, blue acrylic center stack that ebbs and surges in the manner of a river. The cascading floor, with its ambient blue lighting, further enhances an environment in which seamless technology flows, enveloping both the driver and passengers.

A current of information coming from the instrument panel streams throughout the cockpit, as passengers are able to access each other via Methode Electronics TouchSense® technology that links all four business-class seats. The car’s infotainment system is fed by channels from the outside – the occupants, for instance, can learn of a restaurant’s specials that evening as they drive past it.

The sculptured, comfortable seats are custom woven with a graduated fabric that is finished in a silver-to-black sunburst. The ecologically-friendly seating fabric is provided by True Textiles, the industry’s leading provider of environmentally responsible textile solutions. The Nuvis fabric is made from 100 percent post-consumer recycled polyester – reclaimed soda bottles – and increasingly sustainable manufacturing processes. Hyundai collaborated with the True creative team to produce this unique fabric with an 80-inch repeat, providing a fabric that is as attractive to the environment as it is to the viewer. The matching seatbelts are provided by Harveys Original Seatbeltbags, a well-known manufacturer of handbags made out of seatbelts. Harveys also developed two matching handbags for the Nuvis concept.

In the rear, a high trunk floor houses the Nuvis’ lithium polymer battery pack.
